BeyondTheGames Campaign to Show Cambodia is "A Small Country with a Big Heart"

PHNOM PENH: The President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), Hun Many, said during a press conference on the launch of a new ‘#BeyondTheGames’ campaign to make one million paper origami hearts, that this campaign is not only to break the Guinness World Record, but to also show the love, encouragement and unconditional support the Cambodian people have toward a common cause for the motherland.

"This campaign is a demonstration of the unity and solidarity of the Cambodian people to support national athletes through practical activities, as well as to show the world that while Cambodia is small, the heart of the people is still big," said Hun Many, during the Tuesday, 7 March 2023, press conference.

He explained that the purpose of organizing this #BeyondThe Games campaign is to celebrate Cambodia hosting the 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games 57 days’ time. The campaign is sponsored by five companies, who will donate funds to athletes with disabilities through the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia.

"We formed clear goals and objectives before reaching [launching this campaign]," added Hun Many. "What we desire for this campaign is not different from what we have done in the past, it is to create a platform and cultivate the spirit of unity, with activities that are in line with the growth of society, done together for the benefit of Cambodia."

During the upcoming 2023 Angkor Sankranta event in Siem Reap during this year’s Khmer New Year celebration, Cambodia is preparing to break two world records: the world record for most people doing the Madison dance at one time, and the record for the most paper origami hearts, as planned for under the #BeyondTheGames campaign.

During the Angkor Sankranta celebration of 2015, Cambodia broke the Guinness World Record for most people doing the Madison Dance, with a total of more than 2015 dancers, and the world’s largest Khmer rice cake weighing four tons.

Then in 2017, Cambodia also broke the world record for the longest Chapei dang veng, and in 2018 Cambodia broke two more world records for the longest dragon boat in the world, and the longest hand-woven krama.
